As an industry leader, Coldwater Lobster Association (CLA) is committed to promoting and conducting shoreline cleanups throughout our region where we encourage those living in our coastal communities to join us in our efforts. Our shoreline clean-up events are family-friendly and are intended to be fun and educational opportunities which help to protect our shoreline habitat and illustrate the impact of trash and plastics on our coastal environments. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own equipment and supplies if possible (bags, gloves, buckets) however, supplies are made available.

CLA’s first annual Shoreline cleanup that was held on World Oceans Day in 2019 whereby 26 bags of trash were collected, mostly discarded fast food containers, plastic bags, PVC piping from aquaculture sites, fishing rope, escape hatches from lobster traps, lobster bands and other common household trash. We also collected a baseball, a football, a sandal, hundreds of shotgun shells, and one Dunlop boot in perfect condition that we’re offering for 1/2 price. All recovered shoreline debris was recorded and categorized into sub-groups to track origin of debris, volume and weights.
